- INTRODUCING...
- The Illustrated Reader,
- the program that reads
- colorful, illustrated
- documents on your PC!
- And if you have dreams
- of being an electronic
- author, all you need
- is a text editor or
- word processor and a
- paint program to create
- your own electronic
- books, manuals, guides,
- reports, educational materials, ads and other illustrated documents.
-
- But even if you're not interested in authoring electronic books,
- the Illustrated Reader can be used simply as a graphic-based text
- file reader, similar to Vernon Buerg's LIST program, but with a
- GUI (graphical user interface). And, of course, you will be able
- to read illustrated electronic books especially created for use
- with the Illustrated Reader.
-
- First, you will want to familiarize yourself with how the
- Illustrated Reader works, which should take only a minute or two,
- since the controls at the bottom of the screen are self-explanatory.
- Press the F1 key to "pop up" a list of all the key or mouse commands.
-
- The Illustrated Reader (IR for short) can read any text file,
- but you probably want to read the files that came with the program:

-
- To read each of these documents, just press F2 (or click on the
- graphic F2 key below if you have a mouse) and this will bring up the
- Reader Options Menu. Pick the first option, LOAD A NEW FILE, which
- will bring up a list of all the files in the current subdirectory.
- Just follow the directions and select whichever one you want to read.
- If you get interrupted, don't worry, the program will remember which
- file you were reading, and take you back to the exact page where you
- left off! You might want to start with MANUAL.DOC, which explains
- in more detail all the menus and features of the program.
-
- All files listed above have many illustrations
- as examples. Be sure to read the IDEAS article,
- which could make YOU a shareware author! Finally,
- please don't forget the MONEY.DOC file. It tells
- how to register your copy of THE ILLUSTRATED READER,
- and explains all licensing and distribution policies,
- as well as benefits for registered users.
-
- THANK YOU AND ENJOY!
